Music Director/Senior Producer (Job Number 745c) - Full Time with benefits

Description: The Music Director is responsible for developing and implementing the musical sound and target audience appeal of WUMB across the schedule, and the integration of both on the air. The Music Director serves as the main contact for WUMB with record companies, music promoters and musicians regarding music service and performer visits for interview shows as well as for special events such as member concerts and the Boston Folk Festival. Creates music news information for on-air, new media features, and station publications. Responsibilities include hosting or substituting on-air for music shows. Also, s/he will: lead, in consultation with the Program Director, the research and selection of music for WUMB; assist the Director of Programming in the review and selection of music-related programs to maintain and grow WUMB's audience; acquire, review, select and program music for designated programs and special station offerings; stay abreast of musical trends relevant to WUMB’s format; manage music software in the selection and scheduling of songs; maintain the music library; establish and maintain harmonious relationships with music companies, performers and producers; maintain presence for WUMB in the music industry, including reporting playlists to radio trade magazines, newspapers and record company representatives, and communicating with record representatives about artists relevant to the format; recruit artists for live or pre-recorded guest appearances; schedule musicians to perform at WUMB produced concerts; maintain related musician hospitality; creates music news information for on-air and new media features as well as station publications; manages select pages on WUMB's web site; participate enthusiastically at station-sponsored fundraisers and events, as well as at other events, meetings and/or professional organizations; works with students and volunteers, provides assistance and training in the field; and answers appropriate and relevant listener inquiries about music programming.

Qualifications: Must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the full spectrum of Folk, AAA and Americana music and artists. Excellent judgement in evaluating performances of folk music. Knowledge of related music programming produced by other radio stations. Experience with MusicMaster Music Scheduling Software or equivalent required. Eight to ten years experience in announcing and programming music, preferably in public radio, with an appropriate pleasant and conversational "on-air" delivery and style. Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews and/or prepare reports for broadcast. Ability to work with and adapt to new media. Highly developed interpersonal communication and language arts skills. Minimum two years audio production experience with digital editing skills, demonstrated ability to effectively apply independent and creative judgement to editing short format productions. Familiarity with automation software such as Control-Ready preferred. Working knowledge of FCC regulations and standards as they pertain to terrestrial broadcasting, internet webcasting, and multi channels. Some weekend and evening work required during fundraisers and special events.

Salary: Hiring Range: $50,787 to $59,494. University Professional Staff. Grade level 31. State Funded. Benefited.

Description:WUMB is seeking one or more weekday fill-in announcers. Minimum one year experience as an on-air host/music announcer, preferably in public radio with an appropriate pleasant and conversational "on-air" delivery and style. Knowledge of current singer/songwriters and the roots of contemporary popular music forms is important, but a genuine appreciation of the music is essential. Must be proficient with broadcast studio equipment.

Salary: $12-$20/hour, depending on experience. Non-Benefited.

Promotions & Marketing Coordinator (Job Number 270e) - Full Time with benefits

Description: The Promotions and Marketing Coordinator for WUMB Radio will be responsible for building awareness and visibility of WUMB and its subsidiary enterprises, including the development and implementation of public relations, promotions, brand management, marketing, e-marketing and advertising plans. S/he will: assist with related development initiatives of the station including on-air fundraisers; assist in the planning and development of WUMB’s brand identity to increase awareness of the station’s public service, increase audience (both on-air and on-line), encourage listener and business support, and position WUMB as a leader in its format and industry; manage the design and preparation of publications, advertising, related graphics and promotional collateral materials including flyers, hand-outs, e-communications and logo-related goods; oversee printing process and assess quality of printing; maintain cost parameters of project; plan, develop and execute both traditional and non-traditional marketing promotions which may include outside-station appearances at venues and community events, creating partnerships, market segmentation initiatives, and the production of live music/arts related events; serve as primary media liaison on matters related to the radio station; maintain an internet presence for WUMB and station-sponsored activities; oversee select administrative activities; may regularly or occasionally announce and/or provide appropriate on-the-air commentary for music program; and participate in related fundraising/development initiatives and other station activities as needed.

Qualifications: Minimum 3-5 years broad multi-media marketing, public relations and communications experience, preferably within the arts and/or non-profit industries. Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead marketing and public relations projects. Requires an attention to detail, the ability to work independently, prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent project management and supervisory skills, including volunteer/student intern management experience. Excellent personal communications skills, including public speaking, copy writing and phone skills. Demonstrated computer literacy including word-processing, data base management, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and basic HTML. Prefer previous experience with print design, computer graphics and Adobe Creative Suite. Publicity skills including: writing press releases, pitching stories, actively developing relationships with editors, writers and critics, creating press kits and managing press archives. Ability to work with and adapt to new media. Experience with managing web page content as well as with multi media promotion and delivery alternatives such as MySpace, Podcasting, and Instant Messaging and other on demand interactive technologies. Understanding of WUMB’s programming and format. Prefer (but not required) minimum two years experience in announcing, preferably in public radio with an appropriate informed, friendly and engaging "on-air" delivery and style. Prefer (but not required) experience with professional radio studio facilities, including digital editing and automation systems. Some weekend and evening work required. Driver’s license required.

Hours and Salary: Hiring Range: Hiring Range: $37,655 to $44,244. University Professional Staff. Grade level 29. Trust Funded. Benefited.
