June, 2010
- WUMB broadcast the UMass Boston Commencement speeches of Vickie Kennedy and the student JFK Award Winner
- WUMB’s Music Fest takes place under a big tent and two other stages, with thunderstorms and tornado watches late in the afternoon. The power went off in the middle of Gandalf Murphy’s set, but they continued to play an acoustic set for the crowd until power was restored. Attendees raved that this was one of the best WUMB Festival’s yet!.
- WUMB celebrates summer all day on June 21st from 6am-10pm
- WUMB launches a brand new “Playlist Archives” Web page, for listeners who want to find the artist/name of a song only minutes or weeks after its been played. The page can be found under the “Programs” tab on the home page
May, 2010
- WUMB launches “Tell A Friend” week
- Sunday morning announcer for the past 20 years, Bob Cannon passed away after a lengthy battle with Multiple Myeloma. Albert O has been filling in for Bob for the past several months.
- John Sebastian has been added to the line-up of the WUMB Music Fest; Michael Troy to be replaced on the Coffeehouse Stage by Amy Speace because Michael was selected as a finalist for the Kerrvlle New Songwriter Contest (Yay, Micheal!).
- In celebration of the Big Read: Boston, Tricia Rose from Brown Univesity will visit WUMB for a live-studio-audience recording of Commonwealth Journal to talk about Hip Hop Music and Censorship.
April, 2010
- WUMB Music Fest date change (to Sunday, June 6th), and Festival line-up announced with performers to include David Bromberg, Gandalf Murphy, Dala, Winerbloom, Chris O’Brien, Michael Troy, Les Sampou, Cliff Eberhardt, and many more. Info at http:wumbmusicfest.org
- Former WUMB announcer, Joan Orr, has returned to the staff and can now be heard Monday-Friday from 10am-Noon
- Saturday morning Highway 61 Revisted announcer for the past 9 yearss, Barnes Newberry resigned; temporary replacement is regular WUMB fill-in announcer Albert O
- Red Molly performed for a WUMB Member Concert
- WUMB held a Guitar and Mandolin Clinic with instructors that included Brooks Williams, Cliff Eberhardt, Taylor Armerding and Jim Henry.
- In celebration of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” as part of the Big Read: Boston, WUMB broadcast a 4-part weekly series called “Four Decades of Banned Music”
- Also in celebration of the Big Read: Boston, Ray Bradbury biographer, Sam Weller will visit WUMB for a live-studio-audience recording of Commonwealth Journal to talk about the author, and will appear at various other local venues.

- WUMB holds it’s annual spring on-air member drive
- WUMB received a My Source Education Innovation Award from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

- For the fifth year in a row, WUMB has conducted an annual Programming Survey, which was sent to members and was available through our Web site for the entire month
- WUMB hosts the “Big Read Boston” kick-off event of a “Mechanical Hound Competition” in celebration of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. The project is funded by the NEA, Arts Midwest and MA Humanities
- Music Director, John Laurenti takes over the interviewer’s chair as the host of Live At Noon each Friday, and will also conduct other In-Studio-Interviews with Boston-area and other musicians throughout the week.
- WUMB re-launches the Valentine’s Day Internet music channel
- WUMB celebrates Black History Month with weekly broadcasts of the Martin Luther King, Jr. – Massey Lectures special and special features on Commonwealth Journal

- Former mid-day host, Dave Palmater is now the new morning on-air announcer: 6am-10am; Jay Moberg moves to mid-days:10am-3pm
- WUMB’s Summer Acoustic Music Week holds its annual winter get-together and announced most of the instructors for this year’s July and August camps to include Kate Campbell, Jack Williams, Cliff Eberhardt, Pete & Maura Kennedy, Charles Williams and many more.
- WUMB Winter Warm-Clothing Drive collects more than 3,200 pounds of clothing in collaboration with UMass Boston Golden Key Society and several local coffeehouses
- WUMB New Artist of the Year named: Sarah Jarosz
