Child Ballads on Celtic Twilight

During October on Celtic Twilight, we’ll feature the Child ballads. Francis James Child was a Harvard professor who researched and compiled the most comprehensive anthology of English and Scottish ballads. He published this 8-volume collection  between 1882 and 1898. It contains 305 ballads and their variants, the majority of which date back to medieval times. The Child ballads give us a sense of the folklore of olden times; they are dark, often mysterious, and enduring.
Many artists, including Art Garfunkel, the Every Brothers and Joan Baez have recorded songs from the Child collection.
