WUMB February Program Guide

December 2017 Archives

Diving Deep on the Dixie Bee Line!

For some reason, I’ve taken a notion to go deep-catalog this December.  I mean REAL deep catalog… meaning, obscure stuff from the archives… odd-ball hillbilly music from the span of the 20th century.  Read More…

Midwinter at the Folk Tales Corral

We’ve started a WUMB holiday tradition with “A Midwinter Folk Tale,” which airs Saturday, December 23 at noon, Eastern. Explore the roots of our holiday rituals, what they say about the ancient people who created them, and about us today – along with lots of hot-chocolatey midwinter carols, and a few surprises, like Joan Baez’s curious connection to P.D.Q. Bach. Read More…

Ready for the Next Third Thursday Experience….

I’m a little embarrassed about how I know of our December “Third Thursday at the Burren” performers. Then again, they are sure to be happy that I am enthusiastic about them just the same. Read More…

Old (Blues) Wine in New Bottles

I’m a fan of deep blues like that of Son House. His stuff is so deep that listening to it can be a religious experience. In fact Son House was, for a time in his early adult life, a blues-singing preacher; single-handedly personifying the existential crisis between God and The Devil that exists in all of us. He had a song about it called “Preachin’ Blues” for Paramount in 1930, which is one of his best known recordings from that era. Read More…

A Feast of Winter Music on Celtic Twilight!

On Dec 3 we celebrate English folksinger/songwriter Kate Rusby, who turns 43 on Dec 4th. She is one of the best-known contemporary British singers, and has been described as a superstar of England’s acoustic scene. Read More…

If We Make It Through December

Well it’s almost that time!  Depending on the type of procrastinator you are you’ve either got your shopping started, you’re all finished, or…you haven’t started yet.  I’m somewhere in between.  In any case I hope this message is finding you well!  It’s hard to believe we’re at the point where another year is about to start.  I want to take a moment to thank you for supporting WUMB in whatever way you have over this past year.  We’ve had so many generous folk make donations over the year; while some have donated cars, some have volunteered their time, while others have simply tuned into the radio station.  Whatever role you’ve played, I want to thank you for listening and believing enough in this radio station to support it!

We’ve got some very big plans in store for 2018.  So with that…thank you once again for another year of continued support, and I look forward to another year of musical discovery with you!
