WUMB April Program Guide

Midwinter at the Folk Tales Corral

We’ve started a WUMB holiday tradition with “A Midwinter Folk Tale,” which airs Saturday, December 23 at noon, Eastern. Explore the roots of our holiday rituals, what they say about the ancient people who created them, and about us today – along with lots of hot-chocolatey midwinter carols, and a few surprises, like Joan Baez’s curious connection to P.D.Q. Bach. Also, WUMB airs a special Christmas Day Folk Tales Marathon from 6 AM-10 PM. Before all that, on December 8, Richie Havens takes us back to the magic of Woodstock, followed by a December 16 toast to the crucial but largely forgotten Women’s Music Movement, which changed how women sing their lives. December 30, gear up for New Year’s Eve with Judy Collins, the Weavers, and the Empress Of the Blues, Ms. Bessie Smith. May your midwinter be folksy & warm. Carry It On!
