WUMB May Program Guide

From the Desk of the Programming Director

It’s Finally Spring!!

The running theme throughout our most recent Spring Fundraiser (both on and off the air) was that we should call it the “March Fundraiser” because of course there was simply nothing “Spring” about it!  Here we are, though!  We have finally made it to April and while I’m writing this with massive snow piles still sitting in front of my house…they are getting smaller!  Spring is indeed here, the Red Sox are back and all will be right with New England sooner than later.

I usually try to promote some things that are taking place over the course of the month (and I will do that!) but I wanted to take a moment to thank you for listening and supporting WUMB through our March Fundraiser.  It was one of the most challenging Fundraisers for us because some of our essential staff got sick on top of getting bombarded with snow, wind and everything else March has thrown at us.  With all of that said, we STILL heard from you.  We cannot thank you enough for again listening, but also supporting our efforts here at WUMB.

And with that said, April should be a very exciting month!  We have “live in studio” performances on the books (subject to change, of course) in April for James McMurtry, Kim Richey, Jake La Botz, and The Mammals among others.

We’re playing a ton of exciting new music now from familiar artists such as Brandi Carlile, The Decemberists, etc.  We’re also featuring some off-the-radar songwriters and performers like Lindsay Lou, The Ballroom Thieves and more.

We aired our first special from Tai Irwin in late March called One Year at a Time.  His second special is slated for late April and will cover the year 1965.

Be on the lookout in May and June for information about a couple of different Member Concerts.  We have rescheduled our special Folk Tales Member Concert and there will also be a concert presented by Dana Westover and Odyssey along with Gail Gilmore and Celtic Twilight.  Info is forthcoming but these concerts will be interesting and exciting evenings of music!

Our 3rd Thursday At The Burren concert is happening on April 19th with special guest Ryan Fitzsimmons.  WUMB Members receive 50% savings, and we have more shows on the books through the Fall.

So as you can see we’re all very busy behind the scenes here at WUMB.  It’s going to be a fun April!

Thanks once again for listening, and for supporting WUMB!
