Signs of Life Returning…

…and less fear of the heating bill!

Is it starting to happen? I think it’s starting to happen. Nearly each day of the last week or two, the human species (at least the human species as we know it in New England) is showing signs like an opening flower bulb: sailboats are appearing on the Charles River; little kids playing baseball have sprouted up on ballfields; buzzing human activity around live musicians and ice cream has returned to town squares during the day and the evening. And I myself…have taken the brazen step of removing my snow shovel and snow broom from the back seat of my car. Read More…

One Year At A Time – Is A Time Capsule

Putting together this monthly program is a joy for me, and I hope the audience comes along for the ride.  I’ve always been fascinated by all music, but popular music in particular offers up so many questions.  Read More…

Dylan Devotee

It’s probably no secret to those who know me and/or listen to the Morning Show that I am a big fan of Bob Dylan’s music. The sound, the poetry, the attitude and mystery are foundational stuff for me. By that I mean, as far as I’m concerned, all roads run to and from Bob Dylan. His music serves as the hub to the spokes and wheel that is the whole of American music. So every May, around his birthday, I get excited to help plan special programming related to his music and legacy.  Read More…

April Pangs Are Over… Welcome May On Breakfast With The Beatles

Thanks to everyone who came to our “Give Peace A Dance” Party on Saturday night, April 28th in Norwood. We had a fantastic turnout of Beatles fans. Thanks to our two bands, The Oh Nos!!! and Walrus Gumboot! Two lucky people went home with a pair of tickets each to see Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band on Sept 17 at the Boch Wang Theater and many others walked away with original Beatles vinyl albums and CD’s. Of Legends and Lore

Folk Tales pays homage to Texas blues legend and irrepressible raconteur Lightnin’ Hopkins on May 12, followed on the 19th by the folk-rocking Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, whose epic Will The Circle Be Unbroken connected the roots of country to the pop mainstream. Read More…

Cigareets, Whuskey, and Wild Women

Greetings, earthlings!  So this month I’ve conjured up a couple of interesting themes with some new material to go along with them, at least for the first couple of weeks of May!  On the first Saturday, May 5th, we’re going to sprinkle tobacco all over the Dixie Bee Line… a wide swath of smoking, tobacco, nicotine, etc.  America’s relationship to tobacco was MUCH different in the 20th century, as you’ll be quickly reminded.   Read More…

A Busy May and Beyond!

Is it Spring yet????  I hope May is finding you well, as Spring is “sort of” here in New England and beyond.  Per usual, as most businesses find ways to slow down for Summer, we’re just starting to launch what will be a fairly busy Spring/Summer for WUMB.  Read More…
