WUMB Blues Music Camp Re-Cap

Wow, thank you for a great weekend at our first WUMB Blues Music Camp! It was so cool to see all of the work that went into putting it together come alive. I had a feeling that once everybody started making music together and learning that it would all be worthwhile. You made it so!

I want to thank you in particular for making me feel welcome in the SAMW community. The thought of trying to add to something that has been going on for nearly 25 years was a bit daunting, but really there was nothing to worry about. You all embraced the instructors, courses, jams, and concerts with the kind of enthusiasm I was hoping for. There’s a magic about WUMB Music Camps and I believe it begins with that willingness to be open. From there the camp takes on a life of its own. I saw newcomers be embraced and make instant friends, I saw long-time campers reunite with smiles on their faces and stories to tell, and most of all, I saw and heard a lot of wonderful music of all types being made. There were guitars, dobros, harmonicas, upright basses, banjos, and even melodicas everywhere! That’s a recipe for a good weekend.

Believe it or not, I’m already getting to work on next year’s Blues Music Camp. If you enjoyed this year’s, I hope you’ll join us again. If you missed out this time around, keep your eyes peeled for details on WUMB Blues Music Camp 2019, or join us for one of our other camps throughout the calendar year. Visit wumb.org/samw for all the info and to sign up.

Thanks again!
