Traditons…Traditions

‘Tis the season for them. As you ponder going for a cream cheese muffin to read this by, the most traditional Tradition at this time would be the New Year’s Resolution. Which reminds me, I think I am on track to start gradually weaning myself away from bread, and integrating more fruits & vegetables into my diet by next week. There is always hope. Read More…

When the Bells All Ring and the Horns All Blow

Time can be a weird concept. In December, when I was talking about all the new music coming out in early 2019, it seemed like 2019 was another galaxy far, far away. Now that it’s officially 2019 and I’m thinking about all the concerts I’m hoping to attend this summer…it just seems like I’ll be sitting in the stands in a sundress, clutching a new concert t-shirt in no time at all. Happy New Year from the Morning Show!

2018 was a whirlwind of a year on WUMB, from dozens of live performances in our studios, to live concert broadcasts with Rodney Crowell, Richard Thompson, and a year’s worth of Third Thursday shows each month. 2018 also saw the successful launch of WUMB’s first Blues Music Camp among the family of great WUMB Acoustic Music Camps that have been running for over 20 years. And let’s not forget the on-air programs that included the International Women’s Day, “Day of Dylan”, and Folk Tales marathons… all produced in-house! WUMB couldn’t do it without your support as Members, so thank you very much. Read More…

Deep Catalog Hillbilly

The winter doldrums are upon us!  I will use that as an excuse to go spelunking in the deep section of my hillbilly collection and bring you some really cool stuff that simply hasn’t been heard on the radio lately, if ever.  Hopefully some of you had a chance to catch the “Hillbilly Christmas” show last month, that was especially fun.  And all of you who joined WUMB or renewed your membership, THANK YOU!  It really means a lot to me to know there’s people out there who appreciate quirky 20th-century hillbilly music. Ring In the New Year With New Local Music

Lately, I’m finding myself pressing repeat on Rachel Sumner’s new solo EP, Anything Worth Doing. It clocks in at just under 20 minutes but it takes the listener on a much longer journey. Read More…

SAMW 2019 Is Open for Business!

If you didn’t make it to the annual SAMW Reunion Meetup and Jam on January 6 you missed out on a good time — over 100 folk music players, singers, fans and friends got together in Groton, MA for a great afternoon of music, food and fun, all capped off by a terrific concert from SAMW instructor Chris James (with special guest Kate Campbell)!  But the most important business of the Reunion is to give you the chance to get in on all of the good times that WUMB’s Acoustic Music Camps program has to offer — we have officially opened registration for 2019’s Summer Acoustic Music Weeks 1 and 2!
