WUMB June Program Guide

Happy New Year from the Morning Show!

2018 was a whirlwind of a year on WUMB, from dozens of live performances in our studios, to live concert broadcasts with Rodney Crowell, Richard Thompson, and a year’s worth of Third Thursday shows each month. 2018 also saw the successful launch of WUMB’s first Blues Music Camp among the family of great WUMB Acoustic Music Camps that have been running for over 20 years. And let’s not forget the on-air programs that included the International Women’s Day, “Day of Dylan”, and Folk Tales marathons… all produced in-house! WUMB couldn’t do it without your support as Members, so thank you very much.

We have a lot in the works as a whole for 2019, and I want to focus on a couple things for the Morning Show in particular. I think it’s important to attempt to begin each day on the good foot, with optimism and good will towards our community and ourselves. With that in mind I’ve started a feature in the 6 AM hour – around the 6:15 to 6:20 mark – that creates a brief moment for reflections, resolutions, gratitude and grounding. It’s a small moment of compassion at the beginning of the day, which often will lead into a related song. It’s important to get in the right mind set at that time of day, right?

Also, I am expanding the 7 AM hour’s feature on “This Day in Music History” into full sets. It’ll still air at the same time in the midway point of the hour, but when appropriate, it will include a few songs instead of just one or two. This provides an opportunity to put an historical moment into fuller context or to do a deeper dive on an artist or subject. WUMB is public radio and we like getting creative for you!

That’s just scratching the surface for now. Oh yeah, the second annual WUMB Blues Music Camp is already in the works for Fall 2019 and details will be forthcoming!

I hope you’re enjoying your days as you get back into the swing of things for 2019. Talk soon!
