Ring In the New Year With New Local Music

Lately, I’m finding myself pressing repeat on Rachel Sumner’s new solo EP, Anything Worth Doing. It clocks in at just under 20 minutes but it takes the listener on a much longer journey.

Rachel is best known for her songwriting, singing and guitar playing with local Folk/Americana band Twisted Pine. Rachel’s voice soars on these songs. It moves from a sassy honky tonk style on “Hello Operator” that would make Patsy Cline proud, to an almost breathless whisper of falling in love on “Louisiana Love Song.” Given the recent announcement of her engagement to local folk/singer/songwriter Ian Fitzgerald, this is clearly a project born of love…both of finding the love of her life and loving her life in music.
