WUMB April Program Guide

Spotlight on SAMW Week 1!

This July, about 100 folk and acoustic music fans and makers will gather for a week of fun, friendship and non-stop music at WUMB’s Summer Acoustic Music Week 1 at Geneva Point Camp & Conference Center on the shores of Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire.  If a summer vacation making music sounds good to you, here are some of the things you could look forward to at this year’s SAMW Week 1:

Is guitar your passion?  We’ve got world-champion thumbpicker Alonzo Pennington teaching Merle Travis thumbpicking.  Pete Kennedy will teach some specialty guitar techniques, and Rolly Brown will offer a class in the guitar style of the Rev. Gary Davis.

Are you a mandolin player?  Both bluesman Chris James and old-time multi-instrumentalist Pam Weeks are teaching mando classes.

How about songwriting? — You can’t do better than Kate Campbell and Cosy Sheridan, guiding you through a week of songwriting craft, techniques and games.

Maybe all you want to do is sing — our SAMW Music Director, the peerless traditional ballad singer and musical polymath Lorraine Hammond is leading our morning singing sessions in July, and master voice teacher and performer Charles Williams will give two sessions each day in Voice and Vocal Health where students can get help with specific singing issues.

And there is so much more — more instructors, more courses, more opportunities to make and enjoy music with wonderful new and old friends!

This year’s SAMW Week 1 runs from July 14 – 20.  To get all of the details and to register online, visit the SAMW Website.  Or you can call 617-287-6915 to reserve your spot, but please don’t wait — our August camp week is already sold out and spaces for July are filling up fast!

We look forward to seeing you at camp!
