WUMB November Program Guide

I hope you’re having a great Summer as we’re already into August. It seems like the days just continue to fly by so I hope you’ve had a chance to take some time and actually enjoy life!

August is a typically slow month in the music industry and new releases slow down just a bit as the industry gears up for Fall and a very busy Holiday season. So with that…here’s some music that you might want to check out:

The Highwomen – This is a new project that might be on your radar already. They’re Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby and Maren Morris. Amazing harmonies with a rich full Country sound. They performed at Newport and I expect that this new project will be quite good.

Joe Pug, The Flood in Color– Joe returns with his first new album in quite some time. Joe Pug is an incredibly gifted songwriter who doesn’t seem to always want to churn out records “just because.” He’s a lot like Gillian Welch in my mind, where if the muse isn’t there…neither is a new release. I like that. With that said, this new album is stripped down to the core and has a lot to say in just over 20 minutes.

The Steel Wheels, Over the Trees – I’ve always liked The Steel Wheels but I hear something new and exciting on this album. They keep their integrity with the music but there is a layer on this record that is not present on others. It’s tough to quantify exactly but what I hear is a band really coming into its own.

Those are some of the sounds catching my ears these days, with lots more to follow I’m sure.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your Summer and keep tabs on WUMB as we’re building our 3rd Thursday Concert Series that will launch back up in September, along with other Member events.
