Big Time in Amsterdam

Summer is my favorite time of the year, although, I tend not to get too much time off. I’m not especially bothered by the lack of vacation as getting around is so much easier between reasonable weather & light traffic. My slow time will kick in post Labor Day. September Sighs – Local Music Events to Have You Looking Forward to September

September already…sigh. I guess it’s time to reflect on our summer highlights. Music-wise, I think of seeing Australia’s The Waifs (or WAiFS from their early days, which probably stands for Western Australian Folk Singers). I’ve been curious about them for about 15 years; they’ve been a band for most of 27. The Waifs are really big in Australia. How big? Hank Williams Sr.’s life is a tale of incredible talent, artistic vision, influence, and career success. His songs and recordings have influenced many of the giants of 20th (and 21st) century songwriting, from Bob Dylan to Merle Haggard, Chuck Berry to Norah Jones. Williams’ life was also one fraught with pain and addiction, ultimately leading to his lonely demise in the back seat of a Cadillac at the age of 29. Read More…
