WUMB December Program Guide

January 2020

Here we are in 2020…it already seems like it’s going to be a pretty strange year, so I wanted to give you some information involving Programming at WUMB to take your mind off things.

First off, as always we have some Programming Updates. One change that I can get into is the fact that we’ve changed up our Artist of the Week to now be our Artist of the Day! With a weekly “Artist” we were finding it difficult to find musicians that the entire on air staff could curate for a whole week. It was harder than you’d imagine – and it continuously put us in the situation of having to select artists with prolific bodies of work. That’s always great in theory, but it excluded some artists as well. One of the things I’m constantly hearing from Members is, “more, more, more!”  This change to a daily “Artist” will allow us to create a much larger and more diverse pool of musicians. This is a brand-new change, and I could expect a tweak or two here and there.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank those that participated in our Top 10 Album Countdown of 2019. As of this writing it’s still underway, so I won’t spoil anything other than saying it was another great year for music. We’ll reveal our #2 and #1 albums on Friday 1/10.

Registration is now open for WUMB’s Summer Acoustic Music Weeks taking place July 12-18 and August 16-22. This is an amazing opportunity to either learn how to play or to take your playing to the next level. You’ll also learn from world-class instructors like Rolly Brown, Kate Campbell, Hubby Jenkins, Kerri Powers and so many other fantastic musicians. On top of that I think the SAMW environment has shown that you will be part of a truly wonderful community and you’ll most definitely meet new friends.

Keep a listen for our next Radio Special with Tai Irwin called One Year at a Time. It’s airing on Saturday January 18th and will focus on the year 1986.

Our 3rd Thursday Concert at The Burren in Somerville is taking place on Thursday, January 16th and will feature two extraordinary musicians Hayley Sabella and Anthony Savino. Tickets are open to the general public but WUMB Members get 50% savings off their ticket! It should be another fun night from The Burren.

With that we’re looking forward to another great year in 2020 all made possible by your support. There will be a host of Member Events coming up shortly and I hope to catch you at one of them!

All the best,

~ Jay Moberg
