WUMB February Program Guide

SAMW is 25 in 2020!

2020 marks the 25th anniversary of WUMB’s flagship adult music camp, the Summer Music Acoustic Week!  SAMW began as a vision in the mind of WUMB on-air host Dick Pleasants, and for the first few years was a single week with just a few dozen campers, but it didn’t stay small for long.  When demand outgrew the capacity of a single week a second summer week was added, followed by winter, fall and spring weekend camps as well as special camps focused on blues music, singing and songwriting.  The WUMB Acoustic Music Camps program is now a year-round operation serving hundreds of folk music enthusiasts from all across North America, and we couldn’t be happier or more proud.

For the 25th Anniversary SAMW weeks we’ve lined up an extraordinary group of instructors, some who were there right from the beginning of SAMW and some who are relative newcomers to the SAMW family but who were an immediate perfect fit.  Joining us in July are Rolly Brown, Susie Burke, Kate Campbell, Guy Davis, Bob Franke, Rev. Robert Jones, Stuart Kenney, Kerri Powers, David Surette, and Erica Weiss.  Our August instructors include Mark Cosgrove, Martin Grosswendt, Trina Hamlin, Hubby Jenkins
Pete Kennedy, Maura Kennedy, Eric Schoenberg, Cosy Sheridan, Sloan Wainwright, and Pam Weeks.  And it wouldn’t be SAMW without our sound guru John Doerschuk, and of course the master musicians who have from the beginning embodied the heart, soul and guiding spirit of the Summer Acoustic Music Week program, Lorraine and Bennett Hammond.

When health issues forced Dick Pleasants to step aside as Camp Director, WUMB General Manager Patty Domeniconi had already been working alongside him for several years, and under her leadership the Acoustic Music program at WUMB has gone from strength to strength.  Together, Patty and SAMW Music Director Lorraine Hammond have delivered, year after year, the unique blend of all-levels, high-quality peer-to-peer musical instruction, instant cameraderie, and enduring community that campers refer to as, “the SAMW experience.”

Registration for both 2020 SAMW weeks, July 12-18 and August 16-22, is now open.  Full details, including lodging options, fees and policies, are available on the SAMW website, and online registration is available.  Or for more information call Patty at 617-287-6915.   Come and help us celebrate SAMW’s 25th!
