WUMB February Program Guide

Seeking Volunteers for On-Air Fund Drives

Would you like to become a WUMB Pledge Room Volunteer?

As a listener-sponsored radio station, WUMB currently runs four (4) On-Air Fund Drives in March, June, October and December each year, and volunteers provide much-needed support! During each Fund Drive volunteers answer phones in the Pledge Room located on the UMass Boston Campus in the Healey Library.

Prior to each scheduled drive, a “Call For Volunteers” notice is sent electronically to everyone registered on the active volunteer list. This announcement lists the weekday and weekend shifts that need to be filled. Volunteers are expected to reply with their shift preferences, which are then assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Generally volunteers are assigned 4-hour shifts which run during live programming. On weekdays volunteers are needed for The Morning Show with Brendan Hogan (6am – 10am), Middays with Randi Millman (10am – 2pm), Afternoons with Albert O (2pm – 6pm), and Nights at WUMB with Michelle Briand (6pm – 10pm).

On Saturday and Sunday shift assignments continue to follow the live programming. However, weekend Pledge Room shift assignments vary in length; some are less than 4 hours and others are more. The Call For Volunteers notice clearly outlines all of the shift assignments.

If you are interested in becoming a WUMB Pledge Room Volunteer, please send an email to Carol Darcy, WUMB Volunteer Coordinator: carol.darcy@umb.edu. In return, you will receive a “Frequently Asked Questions” fact sheet. After you have reviewed the information provided about your responsibilities as a WUMB Pledge Room Volunteer you can decide to register as an “active” volunteer, and you will be contacted to sign up for shifts before the next Fund Drive.

The first On-Air Fund Drive in 2020 is scheduled for eleven (11) days, from Friday, March 13th through Monday, March 23. More than ever, the success of each On-Air Fund Drive depends upon having volunteers in the Pledge Room, answering the phones.

Please consider becoming a WUMB Pledge Room Volunteer. It is another, and a very important, way to “give back” and support the station and commercial-free music you love!
