WUMB April Program Guide

June 2020 Archives

First and foremost before getting into anything else, I want to thank you for your generosity during the Spring Fundraiser this year. I know things are not easy for every one of us on many levels, so your support means the world to all of us at WUMB. You sure know how to make us feel like we’re doing a good thing for you! Thank you, we’ll keep it up.

Big Bill Broonzy. Man, he’s one of my favorites. The guy was so important to the development of American folk and blues music in the first half of the 20th century, and yet I feel like he is still overlooked. Maybe that’s because he passed away right before the folk revival of the early 60s caught on, or maybe it’s because not too many people play his music today or interpret his songs. Who knows? But on Friday, June 26th the Morning Show will celebrate Big Bill for an hour starting at 9 AM.

Breakfast With The Beatles Is BACK!

After being on a hiatus for the last 8 weeks due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we are extremely happy to say that Breakfast With The Beatles is currently back On-The-Air with fresh new shows on 91.9FM WUMB!  We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience during this difficult time and we hope you and yours are healthy and happy.  Everybody seemed to enjoy the encore presentations that we aired, but there is nothing like bringing you a new Breakfast With The Beatles show every Saturday morning from 6a-8am on WUM-Beatles. June is the perfect time to return too, because Beatles fans know that June is Paul McCartney’s Birthday month. He was born on June 18th, 1942! Read More…

New Music for June!

Happy June everyone! I hope you’ve had a chance to get outside to breathe in some fresh air and feel the sun on your skin. Even in these continuing strange times, we need to remember to enjoy the small things.

I want to say a very big thank you for your support during our 5-day fundraiser. We needed to make up a $55,000 gap in contributions from our shortened March fundraiser and with your amazing help, we did meet that goal. Time and time again you come through and I’m so very touched and grateful that we have you in our corner.

Even though artists can’t tour for the foreseeable future, they are still putting out incredible albums. New music is trickling into the station. If you haven’t caught any of these recent additions yet, keep a close ear, these are really cool! Read More…

The Local Music Corner

Hello, WUMB readers! I hope you are well. Before I get started, I just want to thank you so much for your donations to WUMB May 14 to 18 on our brief direct-to-web fundraiser. It’s a tougher time for so many of us. Whether you contributed a small amount or a large sum to the station, I really appreciate it. Thanks to your contributions, large and small, we have the station we have. We can have a full day of Bob Dylan/Dylan covers. We can have a Dylan-heavy edition of Sunday Morning Brew on Bob Dylan’s birthday (May 24th). Thanks for your calls on that show, by the way. A lot of work went into that, but it was so worth it. Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit

Today, I am sitting and thinking. Actually, spacing out in the heat and humidity is probably a better description of what I am doing.

Randi is playing “Eloise” from Penny and Sparrow. I love this song. The line about blushing the color of red licorice gets me every time. It vaguely reminds me of the simple but poweful first line of Robert Desnos’s “Le Dernier Poeme,” “J’ai reve tellement fort de toi…” (“I dreamt so strongly of you…”). When I read that poem as a 12-year-old, I was struck by how even just the fewest words can convey deep, complex emotions. From that point on, as much as I loved the sound of music, I became a lyrics person first and foremost. Read More…

Ways to Stay Connected

You can join the SAMW group on Facebook. And you can keep up with online music events that Music Campers and Instructors are offering and sharing by going to the SAMW Gazette page on the SAMW Website. Read More…

June Update:

Hi everyone!

First and foremost before I begin I just want to take a moment to express how thankful we all are at WUMB for your support! We asked and you answered our call…all I can say is thank you for your support and we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you!

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been sending us really nice comments through email and social media. Since life has changed for many of us I find myself appreciating the things that are constant and that I find value in. I think that’s the reason we’re getting such nice feedback. Again, all I can say is thank you and we’ll continue do our best for you! Read More…

June on H61

hello again from the H61 camp, first off a heartfelt thanks for your generosity the weekend of the 16th-17th of May; our first direct-to-web spring fundraiser to make up for the missing five days back in March was indeed a rousing success, so we continue by keeping up our end of the deal by presenting the best music broadcasts we can in these trying times, as we, luckily, continue to be allowed on to the UMass campus to do exactly that…gotta say I’m missing my work-mates though… Read More…
