WUMB December Program Guide

From Country Soul to Cut Worms

The first few episodes of Guest Mix in October had a mix of the familiar and new—a combination that I had always enjoyed before I recently became the  host. Reflecting on the relaunch, I’m particularly excited about hearing a few musicians for the first time, such as Jessica Pratt, Tony Joe White, and Nathan Moore, selected for the show by Courtney Marie Andrews, S.G. Goodman, and Twisted Pine, respectively. Watch the videos below for a nice introduction to those three.

Pratt’s nylon-string arrangement and Nick Drake-like melodic sense are striking but her voice—both warm and haunting—will be what you most remember. Tony Joe White displays pure country soul and Nathan Moore brings joy in a mix of humor and smart wordplay.

I’m just as excited about the November slot of Guest Mix episodes. The schedule is below. Among the highlights ahead are the former SNL bandleader G.E. Smith demonstrating a few things on his Telecaster while playing guest DJ, and an extremely eclectic list from Hayley Sabella.

John Craigie and I will debate the merits of artists who, rather than release projects under their own name, come up with cool band names instead,  like Cut Worms. Tune in to hear what John says when I ask what sort of name he might use instead of John Craigie.

We’ll end the month of November with Chuck Prophet, whose passion and knowledge for music history come through as we discuss his choices.

Thanks very much for your generous support during the fall fundraiser. We are so fortunate to have listeners in this community who stepped up like never before, under never-before circumstances.
