Sneak Peek at 2014 releases

Well I hope you’re Holiday celebrations are going well and things aren’t too crazy just yet.  As we go through the process of wrapping up 2013, it’s usually a fairly convenient time to look back and reflect.  Instead of that…let’s look forward!  2013 was indeed an amazing year of music (every year is really).  We had amazing albums from Richard Thompson, Josh Ritter, Patty Griffin, Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris.  We got introduced to new talent like Hurray For The Riff Raff, Laura Marling and Gregory Alan isakov.  And 2014 is already shaping up to  be a good one…here’s a quick preview of material that will be out as soon as we hit the new year! Gearing Up for the Holidays…

Usually the end of the year is a slower time for new releases where the labels and artists start to gear up for the New Year, but we are so fortunate to be inundated with tons of great music.  Here’s some new stuff that might peak your interest or at the very least give you some ideas for that ever difficult holiday gift! Inside Llewyn Davis

What’s your take on the Coen Brothers?  I can’t say that I’m their number one fan…there’s certainly a bunch of movies they’ve done that I completely admire like Raising Arizona and Fargo.  With that being said I’m not the kind of super fan where any film they do a “must see”.  With that being stated, I’m pretty much salivating over their next film scheduled for an early December release called Inside Llewyn DavisRead More…

Dylan Dylan Dylan

The late 60’s and early 70’s proved to be a fascinating time for the music of Bob Dylan.  After releasing the masterpieces in the 60’s, Dylan dropped one that still has people scratching their head…the sometimes entertaining, sometimes confusing Self Portrait.  Read More…

New Music With Jay Moberg

Each month when we release a WUMB Program Guide, the staff collectively thinks of a story, or an “angle” to share with you.  Being the Music Director my instincts always lead me to share new music with you.  The fact is, we’re inundated with it here…we get so many new releases that it’s basically impossible to keep track.  So instead of sharing who’s “up and coming” or “buzz worthy”, I figured I would share with you a very well recognized name.  Read More…

What have you missed so far?

It’s funny how each year that goes by I always ask myself “can this year be as good for new music as last year?”.  With that being said, I had my doubts at the beginning of the year whether or not 2013 would be a good one for new tunes, but (as always) it is!  As we look back at the halfway point of 2013, here’s a list of albums that maybe flew under your radar over the last few weeks! Jay Moberg’s June Pick

It seems like every year or so we get wind of a young singer-songwriter receiving a lot of attention, sometimes worthy, other times it just might be the novelty of it all.  Sometimes these artists “pan out”, and go on to establish a certain amount of longevity while other times they go as quickly as they arrived. Steve Earle

The question is not “what has Steve Earle experienced?”, the question is “what hasn’t he lived through?”  Read More…

The Ubiquitous Buddy Miller

Buddy Miller has seemingly done it all.  I could be here all day telling you about who he’s played with, but for starters let’s go with Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris, Jim Lauderdale, Patty Griffin, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss…and to be honest that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Read More…
