Join
us for the fifteenth annual WUMB Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW). It's a retreat
and renewal and a summer music vacation. But most of all, it's a chance to work
on and play your music with some of the best folk musicians and teachers in the
country. Sponsored by the nation's only full time folk
music station, WUMB, Boston, Massachusetts, SAMW offers an exuberant week of
intensive instruction, jamming, workshops, dancing and musical collaboration with
instructors attuned to the needs of each student. Class topics include
Flatpicking and Fingerstyle Guitar, Fiddle, Banjo, Mandolin, Voice, Blues
Styles, and Songwriting, as well as the opportunity to learn sound
reinforcement skills. Dancing will also be a playful component of the program
to celebrate the spirit of the community. Geneva Point Center, in central New Hampshire,
is situated on nearly 200 acres of woods and green spaces. With a mile of
beachfront on Lake Winnipesaukee, Geneva Point offers a beautiful view of the
lake and the Ossipee Mountains: a tranquil setting in which to pursue your
musical studies and recreational interests. Take a walk on marked trails
through the woods or along the scenic shoreline. Swimming, canoeing, volleyball
and tennis are all available at the Center with mountain hiking a short
distance away. We believe that much of the value of the music
week lies in the community experience. There will be no off-site accommodations
for the students or staff. Space is
available in a rustic country inn (two to a room) and in bunk houses (four to a
room) scattered around the property. SAMW will supply linens, blankets, and a
pillow. Tent sites are also available. There is no air conditioning, so
consider bringing a fan. The inn has a large common room on the first floor as
well as a wraparound porch. All evening activities will take place in the
Chapel and there are designated 24-hour music locations. Meals are served family style in the dining
room. Please notify us if you have special dietary needs. Alcohol is not
allowed at Geneva Point. |
