  • Old Friends and New Faces at SAMW Week 1!

Our summer of acoustic music camps is off to a resounding start! On July 9, over 100 campers and 13 instructors gathered at Geneva Point on Lake Winnipesauke for a week of music, fun and friendship.  For returning campers one rewarding feature of SAMW is seeing many familiar faces among both the students and the faculty.  Over the years we have put together a roster of some of the finest folk musicians/teachers around, and their desire to keep coming back to SAMW to teach is a testament to the specialness of what we’ve created.

This year we added two new faces to our gallery of instructors.  Long-time SAMW favorite Carl Jones brought his partner “in music and in life,” Erynn Marshall to camp, and her world-class fiddling and love and knowledge of southern American fiddle music were valued additions to Week 1.  And we are especially happy to welcome into the SAMW fold Alonzo Pennington, who manages to be both a new face and an old friend in that his father Eddie, with whom Alonzo shares a host of amazing guitar and performance skills, was previously one of SAMW’s favorite instructors.

And so the SAMW program continues to grow and evolve, while always retaining the vision and the values that have made it and keep it so special.  Watch for the photo galleries from Week 1 coming soon!
